Executives of InfoComm project an uptick over last year in the number of attendees for the organization’s InfoComm13 exhibition, being held from June 8-14 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center.

An estimated 35,000 attendees are expected to view products from more than 925 exhibitors and avail themselves of more than 300 educational sessions at the show. The 5,000-member global organization, which serves the commercial AV industry, provided a sneak peek Feb. 6 for the press of the organization’s annual trade exhibition.

The show will highlight technology pavilions for audio, conferencing, digital signage, lighting and staging, and worship. Technology zone pavilions, a new feature for 2013, will cover digital content creation, educational technology, security solutions and mobile video conferencing, said Besty Jaffe, director of public relations.

On hand to discuss recent group initiatives and future goals was David Labuskes, InfoComm’s new executive director and CEO. “Our vision is to help members build their businesses,” he said, stating that the group is seeking to address “what we can, as an association, help our members do to help AV system installation awareness and credibility, among consumers and with specifying professions and trades.”

Labuskes enumerated several recently instituted changes in the group’s enrollment structure designed to create more value for members. In early January, membership was streamlined from 15 levels to two: company and individual. All employees within a member company are automatically matriculated as members, and are entitled to take four complimentary classes: CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) Prep Online; InfoComm Recognized AV Technologist Test; Quick Start; and Essentials of AV Technology Online.

The group is also placing special emphasis on performance standards development. One results of this effort is a 162-item AV systems verification checklist, due out for review late in the first quart of this year. “Sometimes end-users don’t know how well a system should perform. By using this checklist and going through its items with a client, that’s a great way to show you did a good job,” he said.
