During the CEDIA Expo in Denver this month, Powershades unveiled the industry’s first Power Over Ethernet (PoE) automated window shades. This innovative new product offers a convenient, cost-saving option to Powershade’s automated window coverings. Powered by a quiet PoE motor, the shades connect to a user’s smartphones, tablets, and PCs offering total control from anywhere in the world.

The PoE Powershades operate from a single run of a CAT5 cable, which provides both power and communication. Without the need for hard wiring, the low-voltage shades won’t require special certifications or installation by an electrician. And with just a single cable providing power, more information can be transferred through the network cable while improving reliability over traditional RF solutions.

“PoE technology has already been bringing fast, convenient power to a number of other smart home products, including VoIP phones, IP cameras and other automated devices,” said Jason Turner, Powershades president. “We felt that our customized, easy-to-operate, automated window treatments were a natural fit for utilizing the streamlined power of PoE technology.”

Once installed, homeowners can develop and deploy groups, scenes and schedules, set favorite positions, activate low power consumption, and more. Additional sensors can be added to the PoE motor down the line as needed.

Powershade’s PoE automated shares are compatible with a variety of leading home and industrial automation solutions including Amazon Alexa, RTI, Google Home, SmartThings, Crestron, ELAN, Control4, and URC. Homeowners can add the new PoE motor to any of their existing Powershades products, and choose from a wide variety of fabrics, power options and styles, including roller, pleated, and honeycomb shades, horizontal blinds, and more. Each set of PoE shades is fully customized according to each client.
