Last month, metro-NY integrator Chris Wyllie (SEAL Solutions) and co-owner Chuck Merritt, opened SIMPLAY, Long Island’s biggest indoor simulated sports arena. SIMPLAY (short for Simulator Play) is outfitted with the latest in high-tech simulated sports equipment from Canadian manufacturer Visual Sports. Having seen Visual Sports exhibiting at several CEDIA Expos in past, Wyllie became a dealer to sell the line to end-users, and then opened SIMPLAY, which is used as both a showroom and facility where patrons can rent the equipment on an hourly basis through online reservations.
Attendees can choose to partake in anything from 87 PGA golf courses around the world to a lethal game of zombie dodgeball. The 15,000 square foot facility is equipped with rooms that can accommodate 40-200 guests, making it an ideal location for corporate and private events.
Each simulator can be set up to play any major sport, as well as carnival games. SIMPLAY also has a putting area for golf practice in-between simulator sessions, as well as 14 HD televisions, allowing sports enthusiasts the best of both worlds. The facility also houses a cocktail lounge, a food salon, two VIP rooms, a 4,000 square foot venue room, as well as a fully stocked bar with direct service to the simulators.
For Merritt and Wyllie, opening this arena is a dream realized. “Chuck and I shared a vision of bringing an unprecedented simulated sports and indoor country club offering to the Long Island community,” Wyllie said in a statement. “We’ve worked hard and built the stadium, so to speak, and are confident the players will want to come!”
Wyllie, a former U.S. Navy S.E.A.L., supervised electronics and communications in the Persian Gulf before launching SEAL Solutions, his audio/visual company specializing in the design and installation of home theater, automation, lighting and security systems. Merritt is a principal of Hauppauge-based Merritt Environmental Consulting and has provided consulting services to lending institutions, attorneys, real estate investors, and property owners for over two decades.
“Opening our doors only a few weeks ago, we’ve already started booking corporate holiday events. We are also pleased to welcome Lessings as our premiere caterer,” Merritt adds.
