  Kitchen smarts

Bosch Home Connect is the company’s first collection of connected-home appliances for the U.S. market that lets clients operate their appliances remotely through a single app on their smartphone or tablet.

The line of connected Bosch appliances is growing and includes built-in coffee makers, dishwashers, wall ovens and refrigeration – plus the 800 Series Compact Laundry Pair, which is the first connected compact washer and dryer on the market.

With these new connected products, creating the perfect cup of coffee while hosting friends and family, or preheating the wall oven from another room, are just a few of many new possibilities.

The line is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Amazon Dash Replenishment, Nest, and IFTTT (If This Then That) – a service that will, for example, flicker the lights in the TV room once the laundry cycle is complete.

The extraordinary Dacor Modernist Collection, encompassing the entire breadth of “affluent kitchen” appliances, includes column refrigerators, ranges, ovens and cooktops.

The Pro rangetops include induction cooktop choices featuring Virtual Flame technology, to provide a visual cue for the burner, so there’s no mistaking whether it’s on or off. The line’s “smart” gas cooktops automatically connect to the Modernist Collection wall hood.

The Wi-Fi-equipped Column Refrigeration line offers a filtered water system nestled unobtrusively inside the refrigerator body.

Tall, panel-ready doors with a true flush design ensure a seamless blending within kitchen cabinetry; when opened, they reveal a full stainless LED-lit interior. Interior cameras help with monitoring food inventory, and the Dual Ice Maker will produce both regular and denser ice (the latter for cocktail use).

Sensor-driven Dedicated Precise Cooling maintains minimal temperature fluctuation inside the column to improve food preservation.

The latest Jenn-Air Connected Wall Ovens that work with the brand’s existing iOS and Android apps now also respond to Alexa voice commands, allowing homeowners to verbally set timers, initiate preheating, and change cooking modes and temperatures.

The ovens also offer compatibility with Nest thermostats and advanced cooking algorithms that take the guesswork out of achieving restaurant-quality results at home, and these connectivity features can be upgraded over time. Jenn-Air iOS and Android apps can also access the company’s Culinary Center, an interactive, image-driven system offering chef-tested cooking programs to provide guidance for 30 food options and their variables.

Jenn-Air’s newest 72-inch counter-depth French door refrigerator also features Wi-Fi connectivity, providing remote control to maintenance reminders to food preservation features.

A Max Cool setting, for example, lowers the temperature for a select period of time and can be activated prior to loading the refrigerator with food so that conditions for the refrigerator’s contents are optimized when loading. If extra ice is needed for entertaining, the Max Ice feature can be remotely activated to increase ice production.

Besides including flagship OLED 4K TVs, the LG SIGNATURE series, the top-tier line from LG Electronics, provides clients a state-of-the-art living experience and includes a washers/dryers, an air purification system, and the LG SIGNATURE refrigerator; these appliances are is fully compatible with the Google Assistant on Google Home.

The LG SIGNATURE refrigerator takes LG’s Door-in-Door design two steps further by adding the ground-breaking InstaView feature – a sleek glass panel that illuminates and turns the opaque Door-in-Door compartment transparent with two simple knocks, inviting users to peek inside without letting the cold air out. It also has Auto Open Door technology that allows users to open the fridge with a swipe of the foot in front of a sensor on the bottom of the refrigerator. A Wi-Fi Eclipse Display inside the door permits easy energy monitoring and temperature control.

The line’s Combo TWIN Wash System sends out notifications via smartphone when the washer’s detergent tank is empty and will remember frequently used wash cycles and track water and electricity used. And the LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier humidifies air and eliminates particles within a 300-foot radius with a reusable filter that is designed to last 10 years. It also monitors improvements in air quality, changing the display color from red to blue when the air is clear.

Induction cooktops by Miele communicate with certain range hoods through a technology called con@ctivity 2.0.

Once the induction cooktop is turned on, the hood automatically comes on and adjusts based on whatever the level the cooktop is set at, freeing the cook from the need to manually power it on, for optimal ventilation.

The company also offers a new line of dishwashers that interact with the Miele@mobile app that allows the homeowner to check the status of the cycle or start a cycle from a smartphone.

Sharp stands as the only appliance supplier to date that is providing a Microwave Drawer Oven in a show-stopping black stainless steel finish: a perfect cosmetic match to other manufacturers’ black stainless-finish appliances.

It is a design statement as much as it is a functional microwave, with its low profile, clean sightlines, and its hidden control panel, which tilts open when needed. From a designer’s perspective, it provides an option to countertop or over-the-range choices.

For cooking tasks beyond microwaving, Sharp’s SuperSteam+ combination steam and convection oven (not shown) offers a unique cooking system, using super-heated steam to grill food so that it comes out crispy on the outside, while keeping it moist within. It has a SmartCook feature with built-in recipes and 58 selectable preset cook options.
