  A Luxury Work in Progress

When a long-time client called AHT Global with the idea of expanding his property to add two separate apartments, a hidden wine room, a commercial-style gym, a home theater and an outdoor entertainment area featuring a retractable roof, the integrator was all ears – and armed with a grand plan that had a Crestron system as the control centerpiece, due to the flexibility in customization and expansion that the brand provides. In fact, AHT was presented The Ultimate Crestron Home Award for 2017 for this project.

This is a sprawling waterfront property with 34 control zones in the main house alone. In fact, it has been an ongoing connected-design “event” for seven years and counting, and AHT has a staff at the estate on an almost full-time basis.

Features of this ever-morphing installation include intuitive audio/video, lighting, security, CCTV, HVAC, in-ceiling TV lifts, and pool/spa controls inside and outside. Four Pro3 Crestron processors and three CP3 processors are used throughout to control all functions.

Distributed throughout are Crestron Gateway RF receivers to allow the strategically placed touchpanels and hand-held remotes to communicate properly.
Outdoors, there is a large courtyard with a commercial-grade retractable canopy and a stadium-like outdoor TV/audio system. There is also a bar/grill area with two TVs whose media content is Crestron-controlled.

The estate’s home theater is a particularly awe-inspiring focal point. At the heart of this multi-faceted entertainment experience is the world’s first residential Barco Prometheus Laser projector, which delivers its pleasing combination of brightness, black levels, color space and high resolution to a 15.5-foot-wide theater screen with an aspect ratio of 2:40.

An AHT-designed Crestron automation system controls the home theater’s thermostat, lighting, and audio/video sources; Arthur + Lambert provided custom audio and room design specifically tailored to the media space.

The wine room is integrated with Crestron HVAC, lighting and audio/video controls, and there is an in-ceiling TV-lift that is activated when turning on the TV.

This state-of-the-art gym features a life-like video art display centered between two TV screens controlled using Crestron-enabled devices. Temperature, lighting and audio/video content can all be controlled easily. Such is also the case with the two apartments added to the property earlier this year. There, guests can search their favorite media content and play it on the TV or the apartments’ audio system. Lighting, shades and temperature controls are also integrated.

The estate’s state-of-the-art media room’s main attraction is undoubtedly the nine-screen video wall, where nine different sources may be viewed simultaneously, or a single source viewed across all screens.

An AHT-designed and -programmed Crestron touch screen which automates many of the room’s features also lets users move sources around to different screens. The room also has LED lighting that creates effects similar to a modern city club – and users can change the light color and even add a strobe effect.

Custom cabinetry houses and conceals the Genelec surround sound system without compromising audio quality. And all gear is hidden away in a separate room where AHT technicians have color-coordinated, labeled and tied together cabling, making troubleshooting and future service calls a breeze.

The result: a one-of-a-kind, fully automated media experience, completely in tune with every other element of this extraordinary showplace of elegantly connected design.
